Overview

Flow solves a small problem that motion designers hit hundreds of times a day. The built in graph editor is powerful and slow, and adjusting the bezier handles on every keyframe pair to get a consistent ease across a dozen layers is tedious work that produces inconsistent results. Flow puts a single curve widget in a panel, you shape the curve once, and it applies to every selected keyframe pair at once.

The panel holds a library of saved curves. The standard easing set is there out of the box, ease in and out at several strengths, back, elastic, bounce and the exponential family, and any curve you draw can be saved into the library with a name and recalled from any project afterwards. That library is what turns Flow from a convenience into a consistency tool, because a whole team can work from the same set of motion curves.

Application is not limited to transform properties. Any animatable property with two or more keyframes takes a curve, including effect parameters, mask paths, shape layer properties and expression controls, and the panel handles spatial and temporal interpolation separately so a position ease does not flatten a motion path you carefully shaped.

The workflow additions matter as much as the curve widget itself. Keyboard shortcuts apply the most recent curve without touching the panel, favourites sit in a quick access row, curve values can be entered numerically for matching a specification, and the panel reads and writes the same interpolation data the graph editor uses, so nothing it does is proprietary or locks the project to having the plugin installed.

Installation Notes

• Enable script file access in the host preferences before first run, otherwise the curve library cannot be saved.
• Install into the host scripts panel folder so it appears in the window menu rather than needing to be run manually.
• Curves are stored in the library folder. Back that folder up, it is the part you will actually miss.

Before You Start

Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.
