Overview

Office 2019 Professional Plus is the perpetual release that a lot of offices settled on and never left. It is not a subscription build, it does not phone anywhere for a monthly check, and the interface is the one every colleague already knows. For fixed workstations, offline machines and anyone who simply wants a word processor that opens instantly, it remains the practical choice.

The suite covers Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Publisher and OneNote. Excel 2019 carries the funnel and map chart types, the newer function set including TEXTJOIN, IFS, CONCAT, MAXIFS and MINIFS, and Power Query and Power Pivot for anyone pulling data out of a database rather than typing it. Word carries the learning tools, translation pane, and improved inking. PowerPoint carries Morph and Zoom, which cover most of what people ask presentation software to do.

Outlook 2019 handles Exchange, IMAP and POP accounts with focused inbox, quick actions and full offline caching. Access provides local relational databases with forms, queries and reports for the small internal tools that live in every organisation. Publisher covers short run print layout for anyone who does not need a full page layout application.

The package is prepared for both architectures. The 64-bit build is the right choice for large spreadsheets and heavy data models, the 32-bit build remains the correct choice where legacy add ins and older ActiveX components have to keep working. Both are included so the decision is made at install time rather than at download time.

Installation Notes

• Remove any existing Office installation, including trial versions preloaded by a manufacturer, before running setup. Mixed generations are the single most common cause of install failure.
• Choose 64-bit unless a legacy add in specifically requires 32-bit. The choice cannot be changed later without a full reinstall.
• Setup runs unattended for several minutes with no visible progress on some machines. Let it finish rather than restarting it.

Before You Start

Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.
