Overview

Illustrator 2026 is the current release of Adobe's vector editor and the one most studios build brand work in. Beziers, live shapes, pathfinder operations, compound paths, clipping masks, symbols and a type engine with full OpenType support are all present, along with the print production tools that make the difference between a nice drawing and a file a printer will accept.

The 2026 build leans into scale. Documents with thousands of live objects pan and zoom without the redraw stutter earlier versions showed, and the new selection engine handles deep group hierarchies without collapsing them. Artboards can now be reordered and resized as a set, which makes multi size deliverables far less tedious.

Colour handling covers everything a production job needs: global swatches, spot colours with tint control, colour groups and harmony rules, recolour artwork across a whole selection, separations preview, overprint preview and ink limits. Export runs through a single Export For Screens dialog that pushes SVG, PNG, PDF and legacy formats at multiple scales in one pass.

Type is the other pillar. Variable fonts with live axis sliders, paragraph and character styles, optical kerning, text on a path, area type with column control, and the retype feature that identifies the font in outlined artwork and rebuilds it as live editable text. For anyone rebuilding a client's old logo from a PDF, that alone justifies the upgrade.

Installation Notes

• Install fonts before first launch so the font menu builds its cache once instead of on every start.
• If you work with an older InDesign, save vector art as PDF 1.6 rather than native AI for the cleanest placement.
• The 3D and Materials panel downloads its substance library on first use, so open it once while you still have a connection.
