Overview

CorelDRAW has an entrenched position in sign making, garment printing, engraving and general print production, and this suite is why. It is not only a vector editor, it is a package: CorelDRAW for illustration and layout, PHOTO-PAINT for raster work, Font Manager, PowerTRACE for bitmap to vector conversion, and CAPTURE for screen grabs, all sharing one interface language.

The drawing tools cover the usual bezier and shape work but the suite's real strength is production. Multi page documents with independent page sizes, precise measurement and dimension tools, print merge for variable data jobs, colour separations with overprint control, contour and weld operations for cut paths, and node editing that is genuinely more comfortable than the alternatives for cleaning up traced artwork.

PHOTO-PAINT handles the raster half of a job without leaving the suite. Layers, masks, adjustment curves, retouching brushes, camera raw import, and a healthy filter set mean a photo can be prepared for placement without a separate application in the pipeline. Assets move between the two applications natively.

PowerTRACE deserves separate mention because it is the reason many shops keep the suite installed. Feeding a scanned logo or a customer supplied bitmap through it produces clean, editable vector paths with colour merging and node reduction, and for anyone whose incoming artwork arrives as a photo of a business card, that saves hours per job.

Installation Notes

• Install Font Manager during setup even if you already use another one, several suite features depend on its database.
• Set your default colour profile to match your printer's expectations on first launch rather than per document.
• When importing AI or PDF artwork, choose curves rather than text if the fonts are not installed locally.
