Overview

Bandicam has kept a following for a long time for one reason, which is that it records without dragging the machine down. The capture path uses the graphics hardware encoder where one exists, so a game or a demanding application keeps its frame rate while being recorded rather than dropping to a slideshow the moment the record button is pressed. On modest hardware that difference decides whether recording is practical at all.

There are three capture modes and they cover different problems. Screen recording captures a rectangle, a window or a full display with the cursor drawn or hidden and click effects optional. Game recording hooks the graphics interface directly and captures the rendered output, which is both faster and cleaner than reading the screen. Device recording takes an external input such as a capture card, a webcam or a console feed and writes it to disk.

Around the capture sit the practical controls. Scheduling starts and stops a recording unattended, so a stream or a meeting can be caught without anyone sitting there. Webcam overlay places a camera feed anywhere in the frame with chroma key for removing a background. Two audio devices record simultaneously so system sound and a microphone land on separate tracks. Real time drawing annotates the frame during recording rather than in an editor afterwards.

Output covers the formats a recording actually needs to go into. Encoder choice across the hardware and software paths, quality and frame rate targets, container selection, image sequence and still capture, and a size limited split so a long unattended session produces a series of manageable files rather than one enormous one. A basic trimming and joining tool handles the top and tail without opening a full editor.

Key Features

  • Screen, game and external device capture in one application
  • Hardware accelerated encoding on supported graphics hardware for low overhead recording
  • Rectangle, window and full display capture with cursor and click effect options
  • Direct graphics interface hooking for capturing rendered game output
  • Scheduled recording for unattended sessions with start and stop times
  • Webcam overlay with position control and chroma key background removal
  • Simultaneous capture of system audio and microphone on separate tracks
  • Real time drawing and annotation during recording
  • Still capture and image sequence output alongside video
  • File splitting by size or duration, plus basic trimming and joining

What Changed in This Build

  • Encoder support updated for current generation graphics hardware
  • Lower overhead when recording high refresh rate displays
  • Improved microphone and system audio synchronisation on long recordings
  • More reliable scheduled recording when the machine wakes from sleep

Installation Notes

  • Record to a different physical drive from the one the application being captured is running from, particularly at high resolution.
  • Test the hardware encoder before a long session. If you see artefacts, switch to the software path for the final recording.
  • Set a file split size for unattended recordings so a failure does not cost you the entire session.

Before You Start

Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.

There is no archive password on this or any other entry in the library. If something you downloaded elsewhere claims to come from here and asks for one, it did not come from here. Nothing on this site is behind a survey, a shortener or a countdown either.

If the entry does not match what the page describes, say so on the contact page and include the version string from the release details table. Reports naming a specific version get checked first because the checker can reproduce them straight away.

Frequently Asked

Does recording slow down a game?

Far less than a software only recorder, since the graphics hardware encoder does the work. The impact on a modern card is usually a few frames per second.

Can I record system audio and my microphone separately?

Yes. Two devices are captured to separate tracks, which keeps them editable independently afterwards.

Is there a watermark or time limit?

No. This build records without a watermark and without a duration cap.
