Overview
PowerDirector's reputation was built on speed, and that is still the first thing anyone notices. The rendering engine is genuinely fast, hardware encoding is used properly rather than as an afterthought, and the timeline stays responsive on stacked tracks where comparable editors need a prerender. For anyone turning work around quickly rather than labouring over a single project for weeks, that responsiveness compounds across every session.
The timeline offers as many video and audio tracks as a project needs, with keyframing on every effect parameter, nested projects, multicam editing across several angles, chroma keying with spill suppression, motion tracking that attaches text and graphics to a moving subject, and speed ramping with editable curves. There are two interface modes, a full editor for people who want every control and a storyboard mode for assembling a rough shape quickly before refining it.
The Ultimate tier is defined by what is bundled, and it is a lot: transitions, animated titles, particle effects, backgrounds, templates, colour presets, video overlays, sound effects and music beds, all installed locally rather than streamed. Alongside them sits a full colour suite with scopes, curves, wheels, look presets and colour matching between shots, plus an audio section with ducking, noise reduction, restoration and a mixer.
The assisted tools cover the tedious parts. Speech to text generates captions in several languages and styles them in bulk. Sky replacement, object removal and background removal work without a green screen. Auto reframe converts a horizontal cut to vertical or square while keeping the subject in frame. Motion graphic titles are editable templates rather than fixed presets, and the whole set exports through presets sized for common delivery targets, along with disc authoring for the occasions that still need it.

Installation Notes
- Install the full content library during setup if you have the space. Fetching packs individually later is slower than one pass.
- Set the project aspect ratio and frame rate before importing so nothing needs conforming afterwards.
- Use hardware encoding for speed and switch to software for a final pass if you see artefacts on a specific export.
Before You Start
Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.
There is no archive password on this or any other entry in the library. If something you downloaded elsewhere claims to come from here and asks for one, it did not come from here. Nothing on this site is behind a survey, a shortener or a countdown either.
If the entry does not match what the page describes, say so on the contact page and include the version string from the release details table. Reports naming a specific version get checked first because the checker can reproduce them straight away.
Frequently Asked
The complete bundled content library and the full effect, colour and audio tool set rather than a subset.
No. Packs install locally during setup and remain available offline.
Yes, comfortably on suitable hardware. Enable hardware acceleration and use proxies if playback stutters on a heavy stack.
