Overview
EDIUS earned its reputation in news and live broadcast, where the deadline is measured in minutes and the material arrives in whatever format the camera in the field happened to use. The design priority is a timeline that plays back immediately with mixed resolutions, frame rates and codecs on the same track, without conforming, transcoding or waiting for a background render to catch up.
That real time behaviour extends to the effects. Colour correction, transitions, keys, titles and layout adjustments play back live rather than requiring a render pass to be judged, and the editor is tuned so that scrubbing a long timeline stays responsive on ordinary hardware. For an operator cutting a package against a broadcast slot, responsiveness beats every other consideration.
The format support is unusually wide and includes the broadcast acquisition codecs that consumer oriented editors often ignore, along with the standard delivery formats, image sequences and legacy tape era material. Proxy workflow is available for machines that need it, with a switch back to full resolution for the final pass and no relinking involved.
Around the timeline the toolset is complete rather than showy: multicam with a large angle count, a full audio mixer with per track processing, a layouter for repositioning and scaling clips with keyframes, a titler with proper typographic control, primary and secondary colour correction with scopes, and output through hardware or file based delivery with per format presets.
Key Features
- Real time playback of mixed format, mixed resolution and mixed frame rate timelines
- Effects, colour correction and transitions that play back without a render pass
- Broad format support including broadcast acquisition codecs and legacy material
- Multicam editing with a high angle count and synchronised switching
- Layouter for position, scale, crop and rotation with keyframes
- Titler with full typographic control, rolls and crawls
- Primary and secondary colour correction with waveform and vector scopes
- Full audio mixer with per track processing and loudness metering
- Proxy workflow with a switch back to full resolution without relinking
- File and hardware based delivery with per format output presets
What Changed in This Build
- Faster project load on very large news bins
- Improved decode performance on the current acquisition codecs
- Colour correction interface tidied with clearer scope layout
- More reliable behaviour when source media is relinked mid session

Installation Notes
- Keep media on a separate fast volume from the system disk, real time mixed format playback is bandwidth bound.
- Set the project frame rate deliberately at the start, mixed material conforms to it and changing it later is disruptive.
- Install any hardware input or output drivers before the editor so the device appears in the preview settings.
Before You Start
Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.
There is no archive password on this or any other entry in the library. If something you downloaded elsewhere claims to come from here and asks for one, it did not come from here. Nothing on this site is behind a survey, a shortener or a countdown either.
If the entry does not match what the page describes, say so on the contact page and include the version string from the release details table. Reports naming a specific version get checked first because the checker can reproduce them straight away.
Frequently Asked
Speed under deadline with mixed source material. It plays back what other editors want to conform first.
Yes, with the usual expectation of fast storage and a reasonable processor. Proxy workflow covers weaker machines.
Through interchange formats rather than directly. Expect to rebuild effects that do not have a direct equivalent.
