Overview
Resolume Arena is what runs behind a very large number of live shows, club nights, theatre productions and permanent installations. It plays video clips, generative sources and live camera inputs as a performance instrument rather than as a timeline, with everything triggerable, layerable and manipulable while it is on screen in front of an audience.
The composition model is a grid. Columns hold clips across layers, layers stack with blend modes and opacity, and triggering a column fires every clip in it at once. Each clip carries its own playback behaviour, transport mode, effect chain and automation, and everything is mapped to keyboard, controller or timecode so a show can be performed live, driven from a lighting desk, or run unattended on a schedule.
The Arena tier is the one with the output stage. Projection mapping through the advanced output panel warps and blends any part of the composition onto any surface, with soft edge blending across multiple projectors, slicing to send different regions to different outputs, mask shapes for irregular surfaces, and per output colour and gamma correction. A single machine can drive a wall, a stage set and a set of screens from one composition.
Around that sits the real time processing: a large effect library that runs on the graphics card, audio analysis that drives parameters from the music playing in the room, a fixture and lighting integration path over the standard protocols, network synchronisation across multiple machines for large installations, and support for streaming sources, capture devices and shared texture inputs from other applications running on the same machine.

Installation Notes
- Convert your clips to the recommended intermediate codec before a show, playing delivery codecs live is the most common cause of dropped frames.
- Keep the clip library on a fast drive separate from the system drive.
- Build and save your output configuration on site and back it up, rebuilding a mapping under time pressure is not a pleasant evening.
Before You Start
Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.
There is no archive password on this or any other entry in the library. If something you downloaded elsewhere claims to come from here and asks for one, it did not come from here. Nothing on this site is behind a survey, a shortener or a countdown either.
If the entry does not match what the page describes, say so on the contact page and include the version string from the release details table. Reports naming a specific version get checked first because the checker can reproduce them straight away.
Frequently Asked
The advanced output stage: projection mapping, soft edge blending, slicing, masking and multi projector output, plus the lighting protocol integration.
Yes, driven by timecode or by a schedule, with live control available at any point.
As many as the graphics hardware supports. The composition is independent of the output layout, which is configured in the output stage.
