Overview
Bridge is the answer to a problem every creative workstation eventually has, which is that the operating system's file explorer knows nothing about the files sitting on it. It cannot preview a layered document, it cannot show you the camera settings on a raw file, it cannot tell you which vector artboards are inside a file, and it certainly cannot rename four hundred images according to a pattern while writing copyright metadata into each one.
It browses everything the creative applications produce and a great deal they do not: raw files from current camera bodies, layered raster documents, vector artwork, page layout files, portable documents, video, audio, three dimensional formats and font files, all with real previews rather than generic entries. Thumbnails scale to full screen review size, and a full screen preview with loupe magnification is available for checking focus before a frame goes anywhere near an editor.
The metadata surface is the professional core. Camera data is read and displayed, descriptive fields follow the standard schemas so keywords, captions, creator, copyright and rights statements travel with the file, metadata templates apply a block of fields to an entire selection, and the filter panel narrows a folder of thousands down to what you want by keyword, rating, aperture, lens, orientation or file type in a couple of clicks.
Around browsing sit the batch operations that save the most time. Batch rename with sequence numbers, dates in relative terms, and text tokens; image processor for exporting a whole folder to a different format and size; raw setting copy and paste across a selection; collections that group files from different folders without moving them; and direct placement into the layout and editing applications so a chosen image lands where it is needed without a trip through the file dialog.

Installation Notes
- Point the cache at a fast local drive and give it plenty of room, especially if you browse folders holding thousands of raw files.
- Export the cache alongside a folder when moving it to another machine, otherwise every thumbnail is rebuilt from scratch.
- Apply metadata templates on import rather than later, since copyright and contact fields are far harder to add once files have circulated.
Before You Start
Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.
