Overview

Elements is the consumer half of the raster editing family, and it is not a crippled version of the professional application so much as a differently shaped one. It has three modes: quick, for one slider corrections; guided, which walks through an effect step by step explaining each stage; and expert, which is a genuine layers, masks and adjustment layers editor for when the guided path runs out.

The guided edits are the reason people buy it. Around sixty walkthroughs cover the things people actually want, replacing a dull sky, removing an object, turning a background black and white while keeping the subject in colour, building a double exposure, making a photo look painted, straightening a horizon, fixing perspective on a building, and each one leaves an editable result rather than a flattened output.

The organiser is a full asset manager and half of the value of the package. It catalogues an entire photo library, detects and names faces across it, groups by place from embedded coordinates, builds automatic collections by event, tags with keywords, and finds images by content search rather than only by file name. For a family library that has accumulated across twenty years and four cameras, that is genuinely useful.

The automatic tools handle the tedious work: subject selection in a click, background removal, skin smoothing, red eye and closed eye correction using a better frame from the same series, colourising an old black and white photograph, moving a subject within the frame, and depth aware effects that blur or grade by distance. Output covers print layouts, slideshows, photo books and social sizes with sensible presets.

Installation Notes

  • Let the organiser finish its first catalogue pass before editing. Interrupting the initial index on a large library means starting it again.
  • Keep the catalogue on the internal drive even when the photographs live on external storage.
  • Guided edits leave layers behind. Save in the native format if you want to come back and adjust the result later.

Before You Start

Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.

There is no archive password on this or any other entry in the library. If something you downloaded elsewhere claims to come from here and asks for one, it did not come from here. Nothing on this site is behind a survey, a shortener or a countdown either.

If the entry does not match what the page describes, say so on the contact page and include the version string from the release details table. Reports naming a specific version get checked first because the checker can reproduce them straight away.

Frequently Asked

Is it the same as the professional editor?

No. It shares the underlying engine but is built around guided workflows and an organiser, with a simpler expert mode instead of the full professional toolset.

Does it handle raw files?

Yes, through the same raw processing dialog, with a reduced but adequate set of controls.

Can I use it alongside the professional application?

Yes. Separate installs, separate preferences, and the organiser catalogues files regardless of what edited them.
