Overview

The problem this solves appears on every fresh install: a device manager with several yellow exclamation marks, a network adapter among them, and no obvious way to identify hardware whose manufacturer stopped publishing a support page years ago. Driver Easy reads the hardware identifiers directly and matches them against a database, so an unknown device becomes a named part with a driver rather than a mystery.

The scan covers everything the system exposes: chipset, storage controllers, network and wireless adapters, audio, graphics, input devices, card readers, cameras, printers and the various motherboard sensors. Each result shows the currently installed version alongside the available one, so you can see at a glance which drivers are genuinely outdated and which are simply older than the newest release without any reason to change.

Safety is handled by taking a restore point before installing anything and keeping a backup of every driver being replaced. If a graphics driver turns the display into a blank screen, the previous one is restored from the backup rather than hunted down again. Drivers can be backed up as a set before a reinstall and restored afterwards, which turns a fresh install from an afternoon into a few minutes.

The Professional tier removes the download speed limit, installs every driver in one pass rather than one at a time, and adds the offline scan. Installation Notes

• Take a full driver backup before reinstalling a machine, it saves the entire hunt afterwards.
• Install one driver at a time when updating graphics or storage controllers, so a failure is easy to attribute.
• If the machine has no network driver at all, run the offline scan and carry the result to a working machine.
