Overview

This is a compact scripted toolkit rather than an application, which is deliberate. It is a small set of batch scripts and a helper binary, it installs nothing permanent unless you ask it to, and everything it does can be read before it runs. For people who prefer to know exactly what a tool touched on their system, that transparency is the reason to choose it over a graphical alternative.

It runs in two modes. Automatic mode detects the installed edition and applies the appropriate treatment without asking anything, which takes a few seconds and is what most people use. Manual mode presents a menu with every operation exposed individually, including checking current status, listing installed product keys, installing or removing a key, and setting the renewal behaviour, which is what you want when a machine is in an unusual state.

Coverage runs across several platform generations including the server editions, and across the perpetual and volume office generations. It handles retail to volume conversion for office installations that were laid down from a consumer package, which is the usual reason a suite refuses to cooperate, and it reports clearly at each step rather than declaring success and leaving you to check afterwards.

The renewal component is optional and is the part worth understanding before running it. Left off, the tool performs a one time operation and exits. Turned on, it registers a scheduled task that repeats the operation periodically so the state does not lapse. The task is visible in the standard task scheduler, is named clearly rather than disguised, and is removed by the same tool from its uninstall option.

Installation Notes

• Run it from a folder path without spaces or unusual characters, since the scripts pass paths between each other.
• Real time protection will often quarantine the helper binary. Add an exclusion for the folder before extracting.
• Use the status check first. If the machine is already in the state you want, there is nothing to do.

Before You Start

Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.
