Overview

Kutools is an add in that adds two ribbon tabs of operations the spreadsheet application does not have, and every one of them exists because somebody got tired of writing the same macro for the fifth time. Combining worksheets, splitting a column into rows, removing every blank row in a selection, converting text stored as numbers, comparing two ranges for differences: individually small, collectively hours a week for anyone who lives in spreadsheets.

The range and cell tools are the ones most people open first. Merging and splitting cells while keeping the content, transposing ranges with formulas intact, flipping and rotating selections, converting between units and number systems, filling blanks from the value above, removing duplicates across multiple columns, extracting or removing characters by rule, and a set of insertion tools for adding text, sequence numbers and random data into a selection.

The worksheet and workbook tools work at the level above. Combining many workbooks or sheets into one, splitting a sheet into separate files by a key column, batch renaming, copying a layout across every sheet, comparing worksheets for differences, and printing tools that handle page setup across a whole workbook at once. A navigation pane lists every workbook, sheet, column and name in one panel, which on a fifty sheet workbook changes how the file feels to work in.

There are also formula and analysis helpers: a library of prewritten formulas for the common calculations nobody remembers the syntax for, super lookup functions covering multi condition and reverse lookups, a formula auditor showing precedents and dependents visually, exact copying that keeps references unchanged, and a set of charting templates for the chart types that take a dozen manual steps to build normally. Everything is a ribbon button with a dialog, so nothing requires macro security to be relaxed.

Installation Notes

  • Install after the spreadsheet application and match the architecture, a 64-bit host needs the 64-bit add in.
  • Most operations cannot be undone through the normal undo stack, so work on a copy the first few times until you know which ones are destructive.
  • The navigation pane can be docked or closed entirely from the ribbon if you prefer the standard window layout.

Before You Start

Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.

There is no archive password on this or any other entry in the library. If something you downloaded elsewhere claims to come from here and asks for one, it did not come from here. Nothing on this site is behind a survey, a shortener or a countdown either.

If the entry does not match what the page describes, say so on the contact page and include the version string from the release details table. Reports naming a specific version get checked first because the checker can reproduce them straight away.

Frequently Asked

Does it change my files?

No. It operates on the open workbook using the same object model a macro would, and the files it writes are ordinary spreadsheet files.

Do I need macro security relaxed?

No. It installs as a proper add in with its own ribbon tabs rather than as a macro workbook.

Will colleagues without it be able to open my work?

Yes. Everything it produces is standard spreadsheet content with no dependency on the add in.
