Nitro is aimed squarely at offices rather than at design studios, and the product reflects that. The interface is a ribbon that deliberately mirrors the office applications, so anyone who can use a word processor can find the tools without being taught, and the feature set concentrates on the document work that actually happens in a business rather than on prepress.

Creation and conversion are the daily use. Any printable document becomes a PDF through the virtual printer, integration into the office applications preserves bookmarks, links and headings rather than flattening everything, and conversion in the other direction produces Word, Excel and PowerPoint files that keep their tables, styles and layout well enough to be edited rather than rebuilt. Batch conversion handles an entire folder in one operation.

Editing works directly on the page, with text reflowing inside a paragraph, images replaceable in place, and pages insertable, extractable, splittable, mergeable and reorderable from a thumbnail panel. OCR turns scanned paper into searchable or editable text in a range of languages, and the combine tool assembles documents, spreadsheets, presentations and images from several sources into one paginated file with a generated bookmark structure.

The Enterprise tier adds what larger deployments need: signature workflows with certificate support and audit trails, form creation with field recognition and data export, redaction that removes content permanently, document comparison, batch processing across folders, silent installation with configuration files for rolling out across many machines, and group policy templates for controlling settings centrally.

Installation Notes

• Install after your office suite so the ribbon integration registers in each application.
• Set the default PDF handler deliberately in Windows settings rather than letting several PDF applications fight over it.
• Use batch processing for repeated conversion work. Doing a folder one file at a time is the most common wasted afternoon with this category of tool.
