Overview

Office C2R Install is a front end for the deployment machinery Microsoft ships for corporate rollouts, wrapped in a window that a normal person can use. Instead of hand writing a configuration file and calling the deployment tool from a command prompt, you tick the applications you want, choose the edition, channel, architecture and language, and it builds the configuration and runs the install for you.

The value is control. A default click to run install drops the entire suite on the machine whether or not you want it, on whichever channel it decides. Here you choose exactly which applications get installed, which get excluded, whether the build is 32-bit or 64-bit, which update channel it follows, and which languages are included, and the same selection can be saved out as a configuration file to reuse on other machines.

Install Lite is the trimmed companion that skips the download stage and installs from a payload already present on the disk, which is what you want when you are setting up several machines from one download or working somewhere with a slow connection. Both share the same interface, so the workflow does not change between them.

Licensing is handled in the same window rather than by a second tool. The utility exposes key installation, licence state inspection and a full reset for machines that have accumulated conflicting state, plus the option to register a renewal task. There is also a cleanup routine that removes broken previous installations, which is the usual reason a straightforward install refuses to proceed on a machine that has been through several suites already.

Installation Notes

• Run the cleanup routine first if any earlier suite is present. Deployment refuses to run cleanly over a partial install.
• Choose the architecture before starting the download, since the payload is architecture specific and switching means fetching it again.
• Save your configuration once you have it right, then reuse it. Rebuilding the same selection by hand on every machine wastes more time than the download does.

Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.
