Overview

This is a bundle rather than one application, and the parts complement each other. The editor handles reading, marking up and modifying documents, the virtual printer produces documents from anything that can print, and the batch tool performs conversion and assembly across whole folders at once without opening a single file by hand.

The editor is the piece most people spend their time in, and its reputation rests on speed. It opens large documents faster than the reference implementation and stays responsive scrolling through hundreds of pages. Editing covers text with reflow inside a paragraph, font matching and substitution, image replacement and cropping, and full page operations for inserting, extracting, splitting, rotating, reordering and combining files.

Recognition and forms round out the professional side. Optical character recognition covers a wide set of languages and produces a searchable layer over a scan without disturbing the original image. Forms can be created with field detection, validation rules, calculation and data export, and existing forms can be filled and flattened. Redaction removes content rather than covering it, and sanitisation strips metadata and hidden layers.

The printer component installs as an ordinary Windows printer, so any application that prints can produce a document, with control over compression, embedded fonts, encryption, watermarks and security permissions at generation time. The batch tool applies the same operations across folders, which is how a scanning backlog gets recognised, split, renamed and filed without anyone sitting there doing it manually.

Installation Notes

• Set the default document handler in Windows settings after install rather than accepting a browser prompt.
• Scan at 300 dots per inch or better before running recognition, accuracy below that falls off sharply.
• Apply redaction rather than only marking it, marking alone leaves the underlying content in the file.

Before You Start

Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.
