Overview

ReBirth collects the activation routines that people otherwise gather from a dozen separate places into one console with a consistent interface. It detects what is installed on the machine, reports the current status of each product, and offers the applicable methods for each one rather than presenting a wall of options that may or may not apply to what is actually present.

Product coverage spans the desktop operating system across its editions and servicing branches, the server editions, the office suite across the perpetual and volume generations, and the development environment. Each product is handled separately so a machine can have one activated and another left alone, and the status panel shows the current state, the applied method and the remaining period where one applies.

The console reports rather than guesses. Before doing anything it lists the detected products, their editions, their current licence state and which channel each was installed from, which is the information that determines whether a given method will work at all. That reporting alone resolves a great many cases where the actual problem was an edition mismatch rather than activation.

Supporting tools cover the surrounding work: a licence key reader for the keys already present on the machine, an edition switcher, a cleanup routine that removes previously applied methods before a different one is used, a backup and restore of the current licensing state, and a log of every operation performed so a machine can be returned to how it was found.

Installation Notes

  • Run the backup of the current licensing state before anything else. It is one click and it is what makes any of this reversible.
  • Real time protection commonly quarantines tools of this type on sight. Add an exclusion for the folder before extracting, or the console will vanish mid run.
  • Run the cleanup routine before switching from one method to another, mixing approaches on the same product is the usual cause of a confused state.

Before You Start

Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.

There is no archive password on this or any other entry in the library. If something you downloaded elsewhere claims to come from here and asks for one, it did not come from here. Nothing on this site is behind a survey, a shortener or a countdown either.

If the entry does not match what the page describes, say so on the contact page and include the version string from the release details table. Reports naming a specific version get checked first because the checker can reproduce them straight away.

Frequently Asked

Why does my antivirus object?

Tools that alter licensing state are flagged by behaviour rather than by content. An exclusion for the extraction folder is required before running it.

Can I undo what it does?

Yes, through the backup and restore of the licensing state, and the operation log records everything applied.

Does it stay resident?

No. It runs from wherever you extract it, does its work and leaves nothing running afterwards.
