Overview

The reason this category of tool exists is that most uninstallers do a partial job. They remove the program files and the entry in the control panel, then leave behind configuration folders, cached data, registry keys, scheduled tasks, drivers and services. Multiply that across years of installing and removing software and a machine accumulates a considerable amount of nothing in particular.

The core routine here runs the program's own uninstaller first, then scans for what it left behind. Three scan depths are offered, from a quick pass over the obvious locations through to an advanced scan that reads the registry and file system thoroughly, and the results are presented as a checklist with anything risky left unticked by default. A system restore point and a full registry backup are created before anything is removed.

Install monitoring is the more elegant approach for anything you install from here onwards. Run the installer through the monitor and every file created, every registry key written and every service registered is logged, so removal later is exact rather than inferred. Monitored programs uninstall completely because there is a record of what arriving looked like.

Beyond uninstalling there is a substantial tools section: a startup manager, a junk file cleaner, browser extension and history cleaning, a Windows tools launcher that collects the scattered built in utilities into one list, an unrecoverable delete for files that should not be recoverable, an evidence remover for wiping traces of already deleted files, and the hunter mode that removes a program by pointing at its window or tray icon when you do not know what it is called.

  • Three scan depths from quick to advanced with safe defaults on the results checklist
  • System restore point and full registry backup created before every removal
  • Install monitoring that logs everything an installer writes for exact removal later
  • Hunter mode for uninstalling by pointing at a window, shortcut or tray icon
  • Forced uninstall for programs whose own uninstaller is broken or missing
  • Startup manager covering programs, services and scheduled tasks
  • Junk file cleaning and browser history, cache and extension removal
  • Unrecoverable delete and evidence removal for free space
  • Windows tools launcher collecting the scattered built in utilities in one place

What Changed in This Build

  • Faster advanced scan on machines with very large registries
  • Improved detection of leftovers from modern packaged applications

Installation Notes

  • Let it create the restore point and the registry backup. Skipping them saves a few seconds and removes your only way back.
  • Review the advanced scan results before confirming. It is thorough by design and occasionally lists a shared component another program still uses.
  • Use install monitoring for anything you expect to remove later. It makes the eventual uninstall exact instead of a search.

Before You Start

Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.

There is no archive password on this or any other entry in the library. If something you downloaded elsewhere claims to come from here and asks for one, it did not come from here. Nothing on this site is behind a survey, a shortener or a countdown either.

If the entry does not match what the page describes, say so on the contact page and include the version string from the release details table. Reports naming a specific version get checked first because the checker can reproduce them straight away.

Frequently Asked

How is it better than the control panel?

It runs the same uninstaller, then removes what that uninstaller left behind, which is usually a considerable amount.

Can it remove a program with a broken uninstaller?

Yes, forced uninstall scans for the program's traces and removes them even when its own uninstaller fails or is missing.

Is the advanced scan risky?

It is thorough, so read the list. Anything genuinely dangerous is left unticked and a backup is taken first.
