Overview

Luminar Neo takes a different position from the catalog based professional editors. Rather than assuming the person at the keyboard knows how to build a luminosity mask, it assumes they know what they want the picture to look like and provides tools that get there in a few moves. For enthusiasts, and for professionals working through a personal set rather than a client job, that trade is often the right one.

The editing model is layer based and non destructive. Each adjustment sits on its own layer with a blend mode, an opacity and a mask, so a change can be dialled back or removed at any point without rebuilding the edit. Raw files from current camera bodies are handled with profile support, and the essential tools, exposure, colour, curves, detail, optics and transform, are all present under the assisted extras rather than replaced by them.

The assisted tools are the reason people install it. Sky replacement detects the horizon, replaces the sky and relights the scene underneath so the swap does not look pasted on, including reflections in water. Relight separates foreground from background by depth and adjusts them independently. Portrait tools handle skin, eyes, lips, face shape and body proportion. Structure and atmosphere add local contrast and depth haze selectively rather than across the frame.

It runs standalone and as a plugin inside the usual hosts, so it can be dropped into an existing workflow as a finishing step. Presets apply a complete look with a single click and remain fully editable afterwards, batch processing pushes a saved treatment across a folder, and the extension packs bundled here add the noise reduction, upscaling, background removal, focus stacking and high dynamic range merging that would otherwise be separate purchases.

Key Features

  • Layer based non destructive editing with blend modes, opacity and masks per adjustment
  • Raw processing with camera and lens profile support for current bodies
  • Sky replacement with scene relighting and water reflection handling
  • Relight that separates foreground and background by depth for independent adjustment
  • Portrait tools covering skin, eyes, lips, face shape and body proportion
  • Structure, atmosphere and local contrast tools applied selectively rather than globally
  • Masking by subject, sky and brush with refinement controls
  • Preset system with fully editable looks and one click application

Installation Notes

  • Install the extension packs during setup so the assisted tools are available without a later download.
  • Use it as a plugin from your main editor if you already run a catalog workflow, rather than duplicating your library into it.
  • Sky replacement works best on frames with a clean horizon. Complex tree lines need the mask refined by hand afterwards.

Before You Start

Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.

There is no archive password on this or any other entry in the library. If something you downloaded elsewhere claims to come from here and asks for one, it did not come from here. Nothing on this site is behind a survey, a shortener or a countdown either.

If the entry does not match what the page describes, say so on the contact page and include the version string from the release details table. Reports naming a specific version get checked first because the checker can reproduce them straight away.

Frequently Asked

Does it replace a catalog application?

Not really. It has a library view for browsing, but it is primarily an editor and works well as a plugin alongside a catalog based workflow.

Are the extensions included?

Yes, the packs are unlocked in this build, including the upscaling, noise reduction and dynamic range merging modules.

Does it edit raw files?

Yes, with profile support for current camera bodies, and the edit stays non destructive throughout.
