Overview

Data recovery software is judged on one question: does it find the file. Stellar answers that with two scan modes, a quick pass that reads the file system journal and directory records for entries that are merely unlinked, and a deep pass that ignores the file system entirely and reconstructs files from signatures across the raw sectors of the volume. The first takes minutes, the second takes hours, and between them they cover almost everything short of physical failure.

Coverage extends past deleted files. Formatted volumes, corrupted or missing partition tables, drives that report as raw, volumes that will not mount, and disks that have been repartitioned can all be scanned, with a partition search that rebuilds the volume layout from boot sector remnants before the file scan even starts. Recovery targets a different drive by design, so nothing is written back over the data you are trying to save.

The Premium tier adds repair rather than recovery, which is the difference between getting a file back and getting a usable file back. Corrupted photographs are rebuilt using a healthy sample from the same camera as a reference, and damaged video files are repaired against a known good clip from the same device, which fixes the header and index problems that leave a recovered file present but unplayable.

The Technician tier is for people doing this for other people. Disk imaging so a failing drive is cloned once and then worked on from the image rather than being spun repeatedly, RAID reconstruction for arrays whose controller has died, recovery from virtual disk images, and a monitoring panel that reads drive health so you know whether the disk in front of you is dying or merely confused.

Key Features

  • Quick scan for unlinked files and deep signature scan for formatted or raw volumes
  • Partition search that rebuilds a missing or damaged volume layout before scanning
  • Recovery from deleted, formatted, corrupted, raw and repartitioned volumes
  • Preview of recoverable files before committing to the restore
  • Photograph repair using a healthy reference file from the same camera
  • Video repair against a known good clip from the same device
  • Disk imaging so a failing drive is read once and worked on from the image
  • RAID reconstruction for arrays without a working controller
  • Recovery from virtual disk images and mounted containers
  • Drive health monitoring with temperature, reallocated sector and attribute reporting

What Changed in This Build

  • Signature database expanded with further camera raw and video container formats
  • Deep scan speed improved on large volumes with many small files
  • Video repair handles fragmented recordings from action cameras more reliably
  • Imaging module can now resume an interrupted clone rather than restarting

Installation Notes

  • Stop using the affected drive immediately. Every write reduces what can be recovered, and installing the recovery tool onto that same drive is the classic mistake.
  • Always recover to a different physical disk. Writing recovered files back onto the source overwrites the very sectors still being read.
  • If the drive is making noise, image it first and scan the image. A failing disk has a limited number of reads left in it.

Before You Start

Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.

There is no archive password on this or any other entry in the library. If something you downloaded elsewhere claims to come from here and asks for one, it did not come from here. Nothing on this site is behind a survey, a shortener or a countdown either.

If the entry does not match what the page describes, say so on the contact page and include the version string from the release details table. Reports naming a specific version get checked first because the checker can reproduce them straight away.

Frequently Asked

Which edition should I use?

Professional for ordinary deleted and formatted recovery, Premium when files come back corrupted and need repair, Technician for RAID, imaging and working on other people's disks.

Can it recover from a drive that will not mount?

Often yes. The partition search rebuilds the layout from remnants, and the deep scan does not need a working file system at all.

Will everything come back with its original name?

Quick scan usually preserves names and folders. Deep signature scan recovers content without directory information, so files arrive sorted by type.
