Overview

The reason this client became the default on Windows was never the feature list. It was that the whole program fits in a few megabytes, starts instantly, and sits in the notification area using almost nothing while it works. On a machine that has to do other things at the same time, that restraint is worth more than any panel of graphs.

The protocol implementation underneath is complete. Distributed hash table for trackerless swarms, peer exchange, local peer discovery on the same network, magnet links, protocol encryption for connections that would otherwise be shaped, IPv6, super seeding for the initial distribution of a new torrent, and selective downloading so only the files you actually want come down from a large set.

Transfer management covers the practical problems. Global and per torrent speed limits, a scheduler that raises or lowers those limits by hour of the week, queue ordering with active transfer caps, seeding goals by ratio or by time, sequential ordering for anything you intend to preview before it finishes, and automatic port mapping so most routers configure themselves without you opening the admin page.

For anything repetitive there is RSS automation, where feeds are matched against filter rules and the results are added, labelled and routed to a folder without intervention. A remote web interface exposes the same queue from a browser, so a machine downloading in another room can be checked and reordered from a laptop or a phone without a remote desktop session.

Key Features

  • Very small install with low memory use and near instant startup
  • Full protocol support: DHT, peer exchange, local discovery, magnet links and IPv6
  • Protocol encryption for connections on shaped networks
  • Selective file downloading with per file priority inside a torrent
  • Global and per torrent speed limits with an hour of week scheduler
  • Queue ordering with active transfer caps and seeding goals by ratio or time
  • Sequential ordering for previewing large media before completion
  • RSS feeds with filter rules for automatic adding, labelling and routing
  • Remote web interface for managing the queue from another device
  • Automatic port mapping with manual forwarding as a fallback

What Changed in This Build

  • Improved peer connectivity on networks behind restrictive routers
  • Faster hash checking on very large completed sets
  • Interface scaling corrected on high density displays
  • Reduced disk activity while seeding a large number of finished torrents

Installation Notes

  • Allow automatic port mapping on first run, or forward one port manually if your router does not support it.
  • Set a global upload cap slightly below your line's real upstream, a saturated upstream slows everything else on the network.
  • Choose a default save folder on a drive with room before you start, moving large finished sets afterwards is slow.

Before You Start

Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.

There is no archive password on this or any other entry in the library. If something you downloaded elsewhere claims to come from here and asks for one, it did not come from here. Nothing on this site is behind a survey, a shortener or a countdown either.

If the entry does not match what the page describes, say so on the contact page and include the version string from the release details table. Reports naming a specific version get checked first because the checker can reproduce them straight away.

Frequently Asked

How is this different from the Pro edition?

This is the standard client. The Pro edition adds streaming playback, format conversion and a completion scanning pass on top of the same core.

Do I need to open a port?

Not strictly, but speed and connectivity are better with one open. Automatic mapping handles it on most routers.

Why is the install so small?

It was written that way from the start and has stayed that way. The whole client is a few megabytes.
