Overview
Animate is the direct descendant of the application that animated most of the web for a decade, and although the delivery format has changed completely the working method has not. You draw on a stage, you set keyframes on a timeline, and the application handles the frames between them. For character animation, explainer work, animated advertising and 2D game art it remains one of the fastest routes from a sketch to a moving sequence.
Drawing is vector first, with pressure sensitive brushes, a paint bucket that closes small gaps automatically, variable width strokes, and the art and pattern brushes that turn a stroke into a repeating decorative shape. Raster brushes are available alongside for anyone who prefers a textured line, and both live on the same timeline so a production can mix them freely.
Animation runs on two models at once. Classic frame by frame drawing with onion skinning for anyone doing traditional work, and tweening for anything that can be described as a change over time, with motion paths that can be reshaped directly on the stage and an easing editor for controlling the acceleration of every property separately. The bone tool adds inverse kinematics for rigging a character out of symbols so an arm bends properly instead of being redrawn.
Output covers everything the format wars left standing: video files for editing, image sequences and sprite sheets for game engines, animated GIF for the web, HTML5 canvas with JavaScript for interactive pieces, and native project files that carry a full symbol library. Symbols, nested timelines and the library panel are what make longer productions manageable, since a character built once is reused everywhere and updated in a single place.
Key Features
- Vector drawing with pressure sensitive, variable width, art and pattern brushes
- Frame by frame animation with onion skinning and a proper drawing timeline
- Motion and shape tweening with editable motion paths and a per property easing editor
- Bone tool with inverse kinematics for rigging symbol based characters
- Symbols, nested timelines and a library panel for reusing assets across a production
- Camera layer with pan, zoom and rotation for moving through a scene
- Layer parenting for rigging without leaving the timeline
- Audio import with waveform display and lip sync assistance
- Export to video, image sequences, sprite sheets, animated GIF and HTML5 canvas
- Scripting for interactive pieces and for automating repetitive production tasks
What Changed in This Build
- Faster timeline scrubbing on long scenes with many layers
- Improved brush performance on pressure sensitive tablets
- Sprite sheet export reworked with tighter packing options
- Better handling of very large symbol libraries in the panel

Installation Notes
- Set your stage size and frame rate before you begin. Changing frame rate later reflows the timing of every tween in the project.
- Install your tablet driver first and confirm pressure works in another application, since a missing driver is the usual cause of flat, uniform strokes.
- Build reusable elements as symbols from the start. Converting a scene full of loose drawings into symbols afterwards is far more work than doing it early.
Before You Start
Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.
There is no archive password on this or any other entry in the library. If something you downloaded elsewhere claims to come from here and asks for one, it did not come from here. Nothing on this site is behind a survey, a shortener or a countdown either.
If the entry does not match what the page describes, say so on the contact page and include the version string from the release details table. Reports naming a specific version get checked first because the checker can reproduce them straight away.
Frequently Asked
The modern targets are video, image sequences, sprite sheets, animated GIF and HTML5 canvas. The legacy publish path exists but almost nobody uses it now.
Yes, that is one of its main uses. Sprite sheet export with packing options feeds the common engines directly.
No. It is a drawing and animation tool. Effects heavy finishing still belongs in a compositing application.
