Overview
Fresco was built from the start for a pen on a screen rather than a mouse on a desk, and that shows in every part of the interface. Controls are placed for a hand holding a stylus, the canvas takes up almost the entire window, and the gestures for undo, zoom and rotate are designed to be performed with the other hand while the drawing hand stays in place.
Three brush families live on the same canvas, which is the genuinely unusual part. Raster brushes cover the familiar pixel painting behaviour with pressure, tilt and velocity response. Vector brushes produce resolution independent strokes that can be scaled without softening. Live media brushes simulate watercolour and oil physically, with pigment that bleeds into wet areas and paint that mixes and drags along the canvas as a real brush would.
The layer stack is a proper one: raster, vector and live media layers coexist, with masks, clipping, blend modes, opacity and grouping working across all of them. Selections carry through, transforms are non destructive on vector content, and a symmetry system with adjustable axes and a radial mode covers pattern and ornament work without manual duplication.
For animation there is a frame based timeline with onion skinning, per frame timing and looping playback, which covers short hand drawn sequences without moving to a dedicated tool. Files open in the wider Adobe applications with layers intact, so a painting can start on a tablet and finish in a full desktop editor, or the other way around.

Installation Notes
- Install your pen driver first and confirm pressure is reported before judging brush behaviour.
- Live media brushes are the most expensive thing in the application, keep canvas size sensible when using them heavily.
- Set canvas resolution at creation, upscaling raster layers afterwards costs quality that vector layers would not have lost.
Before You Start
Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.
There is no archive password on this or any other entry in the library. If something you downloaded elsewhere claims to come from here and asks for one, it did not come from here. Nothing on this site is behind a survey, a shortener or a countdown either.
If the entry does not match what the page describes, say so on the contact page and include the version string from the release details table. Reports naming a specific version get checked first because the checker can reproduce them straight away.
Frequently Asked
It runs with a mouse but is designed around pen input, and the live media brushes in particular lose most of their point without pressure.
Yes, on the same canvas in the same layer stack. That is one of the main reasons to use it.
Yes, with layers preserved, into the wider desktop application set.
