Overview
Mocha solved a problem that point tracking cannot. A point tracker follows a feature and fails when the feature is occluded, blurred or textureless. A planar tracker follows a surface, deriving its position, rotation, scale, shear and perspective from the whole plane, which means a phone screen, a wall, a licence plate or a sheet of paper can be tracked reliably even through motion blur and partial occlusion. That single capability underpins most screen replacement and object removal work in the industry.
Around the tracker sits the rest of the toolkit. Roto with planar tracked splines that follow the surface rather than needing keyframes every few frames, the remove module which uses tracked surrounding frames to erase rigs, markers and unwanted objects without frame by frame paint, insert for replacing a screen or a sign with corner pin data, stabilisation derived from the plane rather than the frame, and lens calibration for undistorting a plate before working and redistorting afterwards.
The mesh tracking module handles what planes cannot: warping surfaces such as clothing, skin and flags, using a subdivided mesh that deforms with the footage. Combined with the standard planar tracker this covers nearly every practical tracking situation, and the resulting data exports as corner pin, transform, mesh or matte in formats every major compositor and editor reads.
This build ships both the standalone application and the plugin versions, which matters in practice. The standalone is faster for heavy roto work and keeps the compositor free while it runs, and the plugin keeps a shot inside the host without an export cycle. Both write the same project data, so a shot can start in the plugin and continue in the standalone when the work grows.

Installation Notes
- Track a plane that genuinely stays planar. Choosing a surface that bends is the most common cause of a track that will not settle.
- Undistort before tracking and redistort afterwards on wide lenses, otherwise inserts slide at the frame edges.
- Use the standalone for heavy roto so the compositor stays free, then bring the data back through the shared project file.
