Overview

Clip Studio Paint won its position among illustrators on the strength of its brush engine and its line quality. Strokes taper and respond to pressure, tilt and velocity in a way that feels closer to a physical tool than a stabilised cursor, and the post stroke correction can smooth a shaky line without turning it into a vector arc. For inking in particular, nothing else has quite the same feel.

The EX tier is the one with multi page support, and for comics work that is the entire distinction. A whole book is one project with page management, spread handling, story information carried across every page, panel dividers as editable objects, text and balloon tools with tail control, and export of the complete work to print ready files or the formats digital platforms expect.

The asset side is deep. Three dimensional posable figures can be dropped into a canvas and adjusted to a difficult pose, then traced or converted into a rough line layer, along with 3D backgrounds, props and perspective rulers that constrain strokes to one, two or three point perspective automatically. Screentones, patterns, gradient sets, brush packs and material libraries are all installed locally and expandable.

Animation is included rather than being a separate product. A timeline supports frame by frame work with onion skinning, cel management, layer folders as animation folders, camera moves and light table references, exporting to image sequences and video formats. For an illustrator producing a short animated piece, staying inside the same brush engine matters more than any dedicated animation package's extra features.

  • Multi page project management for complete books with spreads and story information
  • Panel divider objects, text tools and speech balloons with tail control
  • Posable 3D figures, backgrounds and props that can be traced or converted to line layers
  • Perspective rulers constraining strokes to one, two and three point perspective
  • Screentone, pattern, gradient and material libraries installed locally and expandable
  • Vector layers where lines remain editable and re weightable after drawing
  • Frame by frame animation timeline with onion skinning, cel management and camera moves
  • Colour management with print ready output including greyscale and duotone separation
  • Export to print files, digital platform formats, image sequences and video

What Changed in This Build

Installation Notes

  • Set the page size, resolution and colour mode when creating the project, changing them across a finished book is painful.
  • Install the material libraries during setup so tones and brushes are available offline.
  • Calibrate pen pressure once through the settings rather than fighting the default curve on every brush.

Before You Start

Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.

There is no archive password on this or any other entry in the library. If something you downloaded elsewhere claims to come from here and asks for one, it did not come from here. Nothing on this site is behind a survey, a shortener or a countdown either.

If the entry does not match what the page describes, say so on the contact page and include the version string from the release details table. Reports naming a specific version get checked first because the checker can reproduce them straight away.

Frequently Asked

What does the EX tier add?

Multi page project management, story information, batch page export and the extended output options. The drawing tools themselves are shared with the lower tier.

Is a tablet required?

Not strictly, but the brush engine is built around pressure and tilt, and a mouse loses most of what makes the application worth using.

Can it do animation?

Yes, frame by frame with onion skinning, cel management and camera moves, exporting to image sequences or video.
