Overview

The Technical Suite is the illustration package aimed at the people who produce assembly instructions, parts catalogues, service manuals and training material. It is built on the same drawing engine as the general graphics suite, but the toolset assumes the drawing has to be accurate, annotated and reproducible rather than merely attractive.

The suite is several applications working together. The core illustration application handles the drawing itself with a full vector toolset. A dedicated projection and geometry module produces isometric, dimetric and exploded views from a flat drawing rather than requiring them to be redrawn by hand. A publishing module assembles finished illustrations into structured documents, and an image editing module handles the raster material that ends up alongside the line art.

Data comes in from the engineering side rather than being retyped. Three dimensional model formats and the common two dimensional exchange formats import as live geometry, so an existing part or assembly becomes the starting point for an illustration instead of a reference to trace over. Views can be regenerated when the source model changes, and the annotation layered on top survives that regeneration.

Annotation is where the suite differs most from a general drawing package. Dimensions with tolerance and unit control, leader lines and callouts that stay attached to the geometry they point at, hotspot linking for interactive documents, and part numbering that reads from an imported bill of materials rather than being typed in one balloon at a time. Output covers print, the structured markup formats used in technical publishing, and interactive documents for a service tablet.

Installation Notes

  • Import your model formats through the dedicated dialog rather than dragging files onto the canvas, the dialog exposes the tessellation and unit options that determine drawing quality.
  • Set your dimension standard and unit before you start annotating, changing it later reformats every dimension in the document.
  • Install fonts before first launch so the font cache builds once rather than on every start.
