Overview
Edge runs on the same rendering and JavaScript engine as the rest of the Chromium family, which settles the compatibility question before it starts. Any site that works in one Chromium browser works here, and any extension written for that ecosystem installs without modification, either from the browser's own catalogue or from the larger one it can be pointed at.
What is built on top of that engine is where the differences are. Vertical tabs move the tab strip down the side of the window, which is the single most useful thing you can do with a screen that is wider than it is tall once you have more than a dozen tabs open. Tab groups with colours, collections for gathering pages and notes on a subject, and a workspace concept for keeping separate sets of tabs apart all address the same problem from different angles.
Memory behaviour has had genuine attention. Sleeping tabs release the resources held by a background tab after a period of inactivity and restore it on click, an efficiency mode reduces background activity when running on battery or under pressure, and startup boost keeps a minimal core resident so a cold window opens quickly. On a machine with limited memory and a hundred tabs, this is the difference between usable and not.
Privacy is handled through tracking prevention with three tiers, from a permissive setting through to a strict mode that blocks most cross site trackers at the cost of breaking the occasional embedded widget. Password and payment storage, a built in PDF reader with annotation, read aloud with natural voices, immersive reader for stripping a page back to its text, and a screenshot and web capture tool round out the set.

Installation Notes
- Turn on sleeping tabs and set the timer low if your machine is short on memory, the difference is immediate.
- Strict tracking prevention breaks a small number of embedded widgets, add exceptions per site rather than dropping the whole tier.
- Disable hardware acceleration only if you see rendering artefacts, it costs noticeable smoothness otherwise.
Before You Start
Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.
There is no archive password on this or any other entry in the library. If something you downloaded elsewhere claims to come from here and asks for one, it did not come from here. Nothing on this site is behind a survey, a shortener or a countdown either.
If the entry does not match what the page describes, say so on the contact page and include the version string from the release details table. Reports naming a specific version get checked first because the checker can reproduce them straight away.
Frequently Asked
Anything written for the Chromium ecosystem installs and runs, from either extension catalogue.
Yes. Bookmarks, history, passwords and settings import from the common browsers on first run or at any point afterwards.
It updates the one already present on current Windows installs rather than sitting beside it.
