Overview

The desktop client is the version worth having if music is on while you work. The library is the same one the mobile application reaches, but the window has room for the parts that actually get used: a queue you can reorder by dragging, playlist editing across several playlists side by side, a local files section that folds your own audio into the same interface, and keyboard shortcuts that do not require the window to have focus.

This build has the paid tier behaviour enabled, which changes the experience more than the feature list suggests. Playback runs without the interruption breaks, tracks can be picked directly rather than shuffled at you, quality is raised to the top streaming bitrate, and anything in your library can be marked for offline caching so a train journey or a poor connection does not stop the music.

Playback quality controls are exposed properly on desktop. Streaming and download bitrates are set independently, crossfade duration is adjustable, gapless playback keeps continuous albums continuous, the normalisation profile can be set for quiet, normal or loud environments, and the output device can be pinned so a headset connecting does not hijack the stream halfway through a track.

The connect feature turns the desktop into a controller. Playback can be pushed to a phone, a speaker, a console or a television on the same network and pulled back again without losing position, and the desktop window can act as the remote for a session running elsewhere in the house. Playlists, followed artists, listening history and recommendations stay in step across every device signed into the same library.

Installation Notes

• Set the offline cache location to a drive with room before downloading a large library, moving it afterwards means recaching.
• Turn hardware acceleration off if the window tears or flickers on an older graphics driver.
• Pin your output device in settings if you use a headset, otherwise connecting one mid track can interrupt playback.
