Overview
Two things stop people putting the current system generation on an older machine: the hardware requirements refuse the install outright, and even where it installs, the background services and bundled applications leave a modest machine with very little headroom. This image addresses both, and the result is the current platform, current interface and current application support running acceptably on hardware that a standard image will not accept at all.
The requirement checks are removed from setup, so there is no security module demand, no secure boot mandate and no processor generation cutoff. Setup proceeds on the machine it is run on and the resulting install is a normal Professional install rather than something in a permanently unsupported state. The out of box experience is streamlined so setup completes to a desktop instead of a sequence of prompts and account requirements.
The trimming removes the store and bundled applications, the assistant and widget components, indexing and telemetry services, and the automatic update mechanism, which is disabled rather than deferred. What is kept is everything the system actually needs: the desktop, the file manager, settings, networking, the driver model, the full application compatibility layer, and the recovery environment for repairing the machine later.
As with any stripped build the fit is specific. It suits an older laptop, a machine dedicated to one application, a test bench or a low powered device. It is a poorer choice for a primary machine that will want the store and the modern application platform, because adding those components back afterwards is more work than installing the standard image would have been in the first place.
Key Features
- Current generation Professional base with the interface and application support of the standard image
- Hardware requirement checks removed, with no security module, secure boot or processor gate
- Store, bundled applications, assistant and widget components removed
- Indexing and telemetry services removed, automatic updates disabled rather than deferred
- Streamlined setup that completes to a desktop without account prompts
- Desktop, file manager, settings, networking and driver model fully intact
- Full application compatibility layer so ordinary desktop software installs normally
- Recovery environment retained for repair and reset
- Substantially lower idle memory use and disk footprint than a standard install
- Preactivated with no prompt during or after setup
What Changed in This Build
- Base refreshed to the current servicing branch before trimming
- Additional storage and network drivers integrated for older hardware
- Setup path simplified further with fewer prompts
- Recovery environment registration fixed on systems where it previously failed

Installation Notes
- Confirm the software you rely on runs before committing a machine. Removed components are difficult to restore afterwards.
- Install drivers manually after setup. A trimmed image carries fewer of them than a standard one.
- Updates are disabled by design. If you want them, this is the wrong image for that machine.
Before You Start
Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.
There is no archive password on this or any other entry in the library. If something you downloaded elsewhere claims to come from here and asks for one, it did not come from here. Nothing on this site is behind a survey, a shortener or a countdown either.
If the entry does not match what the page describes, say so on the contact page and include the version string from the release details table. Reports naming a specific version get checked first because the checker can reproduce them straight away.

Not reliably. If the modern application platform matters to you, install a standard image instead.
