There is a specific category of machine this exists for: hardware from an era where drivers for anything newer were never written, industrial equipment tied to a control application that was validated on this generation and never revalidated, and older laptops with very modest memory where a newer system spends its life swapping. Both architectures are available, and the x86 build remains relevant for machines with genuinely small amounts of memory.

Firmware support covers both the modern and the legacy boot paths, so the same image serves a machine of almost any age from the period. Installation Notes

• Back up anything you care about before touching partitions. A clean install removes the target partition contents.
• Collect the drivers for the machine before you start. Current driver sites often no longer publish for this generation.
• Choose x86 only if the machine has very little memory or requires sixteen bit installer support. Otherwise take x64.

Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.
