Overview
Audition is the audio half of the Adobe video pipeline and the tool most post houses reach for when the production sound is a problem. It works in two views that share the same engine: a waveform editor for destructive, surgical work on a single file, and a multitrack session for assembling, mixing and delivering a finished programme.
The repair tools are the reason it earns its place. The spectral frequency display draws sound as a picture, so a chair scrape, a phone buzz or a single cough appears as a visible smudge that can be lassoed and removed while the dialogue over it survives. Around that sit the noise reduction chain, de reverb, de hum, click and pop removal, and the sound remover that learns a repeating offender from a selection and strips it across the whole file.
Multitrack sessions carry as many audio tracks as a project needs, with buses, sends, submixes, clip and track effect racks, automation lanes on every parameter, and side chaining so music ducks under dialogue automatically rather than by hand drawn keyframes. Loudness normalisation targets for broadcast and streaming delivery are presets, and the loudness radar meter shows compliance while you mix rather than after you export.
Production support covers the rest of the working day: batch processing across a folder of files, a favourites system that turns a chain of edits into a single click, speech to text for transcript reference, generative background noise fill for extending room tone under a cut, an effects rack that hosts VST3 plugins alongside the built in set, and session export that hands a mix back to an editing timeline without flattening the structure.

Installation Notes
- Set your audio hardware and buffer size on first launch. Most reported latency complaints are a default buffer that was never changed.
- Work on a copy in waveform view. That view writes destructively by design, which is the point of it, but it is unforgiving.
- Point the temporary and media cache folders at a fast drive before starting a long session.
Before You Start
Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.
