Overview
AutoCAD Mechanical is the standard drafting application with an engineering toolset built into it. Everything in the base product is present and behaves identically, which matters because the drawings it produces are ordinary drawing files that anyone with the base application can open. The difference is in how much of the drawing you no longer have to draw.
The parts library is the headline. Screws, nuts, washers, bolts, pins, rivets, bearings, seals, shafts, gears, springs and structural sections are generated from standards data rather than drawn, in the international and regional standards engineers actually work to. Placing a fastener means picking a standard and a size, and the drawing gets a correctly proportioned, correctly annotated component that knows what it is.
Detailing is largely automatic on top of that. Centre lines, hole charts, shaft calculations, fits and tolerance annotation, weld symbols, surface texture symbols and geometric dimensioning notation all come from dedicated commands rather than being assembled from lines and text. Balloons attach to components and number themselves, and the bill of materials is generated from what is in the drawing rather than typed alongside it.
The layer and structure management is the part that quietly saves the most time on a long project. The mechanical layer scheme is applied automatically as objects are created, so a centre line lands on the centre line layer with the right linetype without anyone choosing it, and the structure browser presents the drawing as an assembly tree rather than a flat list of entities. Standard parts, custom parts and copies stay linked, so a change propagates rather than being repeated.
Key Features
- Full standard drafting application included, producing ordinary drawing files
- Standards based library of fasteners, bearings, shafts, gears, springs and structural sections
- International and regional standards support with correct annotation per standard
- Automatic mechanical layer management applied as objects are created
- Structure browser presenting the drawing as an assembly tree
- Generated bills of material with self numbering balloons
- Dimensioning with fits, tolerances, geometric notation and hole charts
- Weld symbols, surface texture symbols and standards compliant annotation sets
- Shaft generator with calculation of deflection, moment and safety factors
- Associative detailing so a change to a component propagates through the drawing
What Changed in This Build
- Expanded standards content across fastener and structural section libraries
- Faster regeneration on drawings with very large component counts
- Bill of material export reworked with cleaner column mapping
- Improved performance opening drawings created in much older releases

Installation Notes
- Pick your drafting standard on first launch, it sets the layer scheme, annotation style and library content for every new drawing after that.
- Install to the default program folder unless you have a reason not to, the content libraries are located relative to it.
- Migrate your custom settings from an earlier release through the migration tool rather than copying support files by hand.
Before You Start
Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.
There is no archive password on this or any other entry in the library. If something you downloaded elsewhere claims to come from here and asks for one, it did not come from here. Nothing on this site is behind a survey, a shortener or a countdown either.
If the entry does not match what the page describes, say so on the contact page and include the version string from the release details table. Reports naming a specific version get checked first because the checker can reproduce them straight away.
Frequently Asked
Yes. The output is an ordinary drawing file. Mechanical objects appear as normal geometry with the annotation intact.
No. It is a two dimensional drafting and detailing application with a mechanical toolset, not a parametric solid modeller.
Yes, the content ships with the package and installs alongside the application.
