Overview
Revit is a database that happens to draw. Every wall, door, beam and duct is an object with parameters, relationships and quantities, and every plan, section, elevation, schedule and sheet is a live view onto that database. Move a wall and the plan, the section, the elevation, the door schedule and the area calculation all change together, because they are not separate drawings.
The architecture side handles walls with layered assemblies, floors, roofs, ceilings, stairs and railings, curtain systems, rooms with areas and volumes, and the full family editor for building custom parametric components. Documentation comes out of the model as views placed on sheets with automatic tags, dimensions and keynotes.
The structural side covers concrete, steel and timber framing with connections, rebar detailing, analytical models for export to analysis packages, and the fabrication level detail needed for steel shop drawings. The building services side handles ducting, piping, electrical circuits, plumbing and fire protection with sizing calculations and pressure loss reporting driven by the system definitions.
Coordination is what justifies the model in the first place. Linked models from other disciplines, interference checking that reports actual clashes rather than visual guesses, copy monitor for keeping shared elements aligned across teams, worksharing so several people work on one model at once, and IFC export for handing the model to anyone not using the same software.
Key Features
- Parametric building model driving every plan, section, elevation, schedule and sheet
- Architectural elements: walls with layered assemblies, floors, roofs, stairs, railings and curtain systems
- Structural framing in concrete, steel and timber with connections and rebar detailing
- Building services with duct, pipe and electrical systems including sizing and pressure loss
- Family editor for building custom parametric components
- Schedules and quantity takeoff generated live from model data
- Worksharing with a central model and local copies for team collaboration
- Linked models, copy monitor and interference checking for cross discipline coordination
- Phasing and design options for renovation and alternative studies
- IFC, DWG, DGN and point cloud import and export
What Changed in This Build
- Faster model open and synchronise on large worksharing projects
- Improved toposolid editing and site modelling behaviour
- Additional steel connection types in the structural library
- Sheet and view management improvements for large document sets

Installation Notes
- Install content libraries for your region during setup, adding them later means a separate download and manual path configuration.
- Work from a local copy of a central model rather than opening the central model directly on a team project.
- Purge unused families and audit the model periodically, file size and open time degrade otherwise.
Before You Start
Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.
There is no archive password on this or any other entry in the library. If something you downloaded elsewhere claims to come from here and asks for one, it did not come from here. Nothing on this site is behind a survey, a shortener or a countdown either.
If the entry does not match what the page describes, say so on the contact page and include the version string from the release details table. Reports naming a specific version get checked first because the checker can reproduce them straight away.
Frequently Asked
Yes, and it upgrades them on open. Upgrades are one way, so archive the original before opening a client model.
Yes. Architecture, structure and building services are one application rather than separate products.
Revit favours high single core clock speed and plenty of memory over core count. An SSD and 32 GB make more difference than an expensive processor.
