Overview

SketchUp's push pull modelling is the fastest way from an idea to a three dimensional object that anyone has shipped. Draw a rectangle, pull it into a box, and you have a building mass in four seconds. That immediacy is why it dominates early design, and why architects who have expensive BIM software on the same machine still open SketchUp for the first week of a project.

The Pro tier is what makes it a production tool rather than a sketching toy. LayOut turns models into dimensioned, annotated construction documents with viewports that stay linked to the model, so a change upstream updates every sheet. Style Builder makes custom sketchy edge styles for presentation drawings. Solid tools handle boolean operations properly, and the import and export list covers DWG, DXF, IFC, OBJ, FBX, 3DS, STL and more.

Organisation is handled through groups, components and tags. Components are instanced, so editing one updates every copy, and dynamic components carry parameters and configuration options. Scenes store camera position, style, tag visibility and section planes, which makes both presentation and export workflows repeatable rather than manual.

The extension ecosystem is genuinely part of the product. Rendering engines, parametric tools, terrain, curved surface modelling, quantity takeoff, structural analysis and more all install from the extension warehouse, and the Ruby API means a studio can automate its own repetitive tasks. Any workflow SketchUp does not cover natively probably has an extension that does.

Key Features

  • Push pull direct modelling with inference based drawing and precise numeric entry
  • Groups, components and tags for organising complex models
  • Dynamic components with parameters and configuration options
  • Scenes storing camera, style, tag visibility and section planes
  • LayOut for dimensioned construction documents linked live to the model
  • Style Builder for custom sketchy edge and presentation styles
  • Solid tools for union, subtract, intersect, trim and split
  • Section planes with cut fills for plans and sections straight from the model
  • Import and export across DWG, DXF, IFC, OBJ, FBX, 3DS, STL, COLLADA and image formats
  • Ruby API and extension warehouse for rendering, terrain, takeoff and automation

What Changed in This Build

  • Faster orbit and redraw on models with heavy component counts
  • LayOut viewport rendering improved on large document sets
  • Improved handling of imported IFC data with property retention
  • Refreshed default material and style libraries

Installation Notes

  • Update your graphics driver first. SketchUp is more sensitive to OpenGL driver quality than most applications.
  • Purge unused components and materials before saving large models, files bloat quickly otherwise.
  • Install extensions one at a time and restart between them so a misbehaving one is easy to identify.

Before You Start

Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.

There is no archive password on this or any other entry in the library. If something you downloaded elsewhere claims to come from here and asks for one, it did not come from here. Nothing on this site is behind a survey, a shortener or a countdown either.

If the entry does not match what the page describes, say so on the contact page and include the version string from the release details table. Reports naming a specific version get checked first because the checker can reproduce them straight away.

Frequently Asked

Is LayOut included?

Yes. LayOut and Style Builder are both part of the Pro package, and they are the main difference from the free tier.

Does it export to DWG?

Yes, in both 2D and 3D, with layer mapping options in the export dialog.

Can it handle very large models?

It can, though performance depends more on component organisation and processor clock than on raw hardware. Use tags and scenes to hide what you are not working on.
