Overview
Fusion 360 collapsed a workflow that used to need four separate applications into one. Design the part, assemble it with the others, simulate how it behaves, render it for the client, then generate the toolpaths that cut it, all in the same file with the same model, and a change to the sketch propagates through every one of those downstream stages rather than invalidating them.
Modelling is parametric and history based, with a timeline at the bottom of the window recording every operation so any step can be revisited and edited with everything after it rebuilding. Sketches with dimensional and geometric constraints drive extrudes, revolves, lofts, sweeps, shells and patterns. Direct modelling is available for imported geometry with no history, surface modelling for complex shapes, freeform sculpting for organic forms, and a sheet metal environment with flat pattern generation.
Assemblies use joints rather than mates, which is a genuinely better model. A joint defines how two components move relative to each other, and the assembly can be dragged to see the motion immediately, with contact sets and motion studies for mechanisms that need checking rather than assuming. Components can be created in place, external designs referenced, and the whole assembly driven by a parameter table.
Downstream, the simulation environment covers static stress, modal, thermal, buckling and non linear studies with automatic meshing, the render environment produces photographic images locally or on remote hardware, and the manufacturing environment generates toolpaths for milling, turning, cutting and additive processes with post processors for a very wide range of machines. The result is that a part designed in the morning can be running on a machine in the afternoon without leaving the application.

Installation Notes
- Set your default units before creating anything, changing them later on an established design is more disruptive than it sounds.
- Keep the timeline tidy as you work, a model with two hundred unnamed operations is very hard to edit six months later.
- Test a post processor on a simple part before committing a real job to it, machine controllers vary more than the library implies.
Before You Start
Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.
There is no archive password on this or any other entry in the library. If something you downloaded elsewhere claims to come from here and asks for one, it did not come from here. Nothing on this site is behind a survey, a shortener or a countdown either.
