Overview
ETABS is the building analysis application, and the distinction matters. General structural software treats a building as an arbitrary collection of members. ETABS treats it as storeys, floors, walls, columns and beams, which means the model is built the way the building is built, similar storeys are defined once and replicated, and the results come back organised by storey rather than as a wall of element numbers.
That organisation runs through everything. Diaphragms are assigned per floor and behave as rigid or semi rigid as specified. Storey drift, storey shear, overturning moment and torsional irregularity are reported per level as design quantities rather than being derived by hand from element results. Vertical elements are meshed automatically and consistently across floors, and the model updates coherently when a storey height or a grid line changes.
The analysis capability is broad. Static and dynamic analysis, response spectrum and time history, non linear static pushover with plastic hinges, non linear time history for performance based design, staged construction accounting for the sequence a building is actually built in, P delta effects, cracked section behaviour, soil structure interaction through spring supports, and base isolation and damper elements for seismic protection systems.
Design is integrated rather than exported. Steel frame design, concrete frame design, shear wall design, composite beam and composite column design, and slab design all run against the selected national code, with the ability to auto select sections from a list and iterate until the design converges. Detailed output shows the governing combination, the controlling check and the demand to capacity ratio for every member, and the documentation module produces the drawings and schedules that come out of that.

Installation Notes
- Define your storey data and grid before drawing anything, the entire model organisation depends on getting that right first.
- Time history result files are very large, keep the model folder on a drive with substantial free space.
- Check your units and code selection against a small hand calculated model once after installing.
Before You Start
Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.
There is no archive password on this or any other entry in the library. If something you downloaded elsewhere claims to come from here and asks for one, it did not come from here. Nothing on this site is behind a survey, a shortener or a countdown either.
If the entry does not match what the page describes, say so on the contact page and include the version string from the release details table. Reports naming a specific version get checked first because the checker can reproduce them straight away.
Frequently Asked
The model is organised by storey and floor rather than as a flat member list, and the results and design checks are reported in building terms such as drift and storey shear.
Yes, including non linear analysis, staged construction, performance based design and the full design module set.
The common exchange formats import. Expect to rationalise the geometry, an architectural model is not an analysis model without work.
