Overview

ArcGIS Pro is the desktop application at the centre of the largest geographic information platform in professional use. It handles the whole chain: bringing spatial data in, cleaning and maintaining it, analysing it, and producing the maps, scenes, layouts and reports that come out the other end. Planning departments, utilities, environmental consultancies, logistics operations and survey firms all sit on some version of this.

The application is genuinely multi dimensional. A project holds two dimensional maps and three dimensional scenes side by side, sharing the same layers and symbology, so a site can be examined as a plan and as a model without maintaining two datasets. Time enabled layers add the fourth axis, animating change across a period and exporting that as video or as a stepped series of frames.

Data handling covers the formats the field actually uses. Feature classes and geodatabases, shapefiles, coverages, raster and imagery formats, point clouds from survey scanning, terrain and elevation surfaces, tabular data joined on a key, and live connections to enterprise database servers. Editing is versioned and validated, with topology rules, attribute domains, subtypes and attribute rules keeping the data honest as it is maintained rather than after the fact.

Analysis is the reason the application exists. Several hundred geoprocessing tools cover overlay, proximity, statistics, interpolation, network routing, suitability modelling, hydrology, terrain derivation, imagery classification and change detection. Tools chain together in a visual model builder or through a scripting interface, so an analysis run once by hand becomes a repeatable process, which is what turns a one off answer into a maintained product.

Key Features

  • Two dimensional maps and three dimensional scenes in the same project sharing layers and symbology
  • Time enabled layers for animating change with video and frame series export
  • Support for geodatabases, shapefiles, raster and imagery formats, point clouds and elevation surfaces
  • Live connections to enterprise database servers with versioned editing
  • Topology rules, attribute domains, subtypes and attribute rules for data integrity
  • Several hundred geoprocessing tools spanning overlay, proximity, statistics and interpolation
  • Network analysis for routing, service areas and closest facility problems
  • Imagery classification, change detection and raster analysis with the extensions unlocked
  • Visual model builder and a scripting interface for repeatable analysis chains
  • Layout designer with map series, dynamic text, legends, scale bars and print output

What Changed in This Build

  • Faster draw on very large feature layers and dense point clouds
  • Additional geoprocessing tools across the imagery and terrain toolsets
  • Scene rendering improved for large three dimensional city models
  • Layout map series export reworked for large batch output

Installation Notes

  • Keep your working geodatabase on a fast local drive even when the authoritative copy lives on a server, draw performance is dominated by data access.
  • Update your graphics driver before first launch, three dimensional scenes are driver sensitive.
  • Set the project coordinate system deliberately at creation rather than letting it inherit from the first layer added.

Before You Start

Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.

There is no archive password on this or any other entry in the library. If something you downloaded elsewhere claims to come from here and asks for one, it did not come from here. Nothing on this site is behind a survey, a shortener or a countdown either.

If the entry does not match what the page describes, say so on the contact page and include the version string from the release details table. Reports naming a specific version get checked first because the checker can reproduce them straight away.

Frequently Asked

Is this a replacement for the older desktop product?

Yes, it is the current generation. Older documents and toolboxes import, though some legacy tools have been reorganised or replaced.

Are the extensions included?

The analysis extensions are unlocked in this package, including the imagery, network, three dimensional and spatial analysis toolsets.

Can it work offline?

Yes. Local data, local geodatabases and local analysis need no connection. Only the online content and service connections do.
