Overview
STAAD.Pro is the structural analysis application a very large number of engineering offices standardised on, and the reason is breadth. It analyses and designs almost any structure a civil or structural engineer is likely to encounter, from a simple portal frame to a stadium roof, a transmission tower, a jetty or a plant structure, and it does so against more national design codes than any comparable package.
The workflow starts in the integrated modeller. Geometry is built from nodes, beams, plates and solids, or imported from the common drafting and building model formats, and parametric generators handle the repetitive structures such as frames, trusses, cylinders and surfaces. Sections come from an extensive profile database covering the regional catalogues, and supports, releases, offsets and specifications are applied to selections rather than one member at a time.
Loading covers the full set: self weight, nodal and member loads, area and floor loads, temperature and strain, moving loads for bridge work, response spectrum and time history for seismic, and automated wind and seismic generation from the code parameters. Load combinations are generated from the selected code rather than being entered by hand, and the analysis engine covers linear static, P delta, buckling, dynamic, non linear and cable analysis.
Design is where the code library matters. Steel, concrete, timber, aluminium and cold formed members are checked and designed against the selected national code, with the design output written as a readable calculation rather than a pass or fail flag. The reporting module assembles input, results, diagrams and design checks into a submission quality document, which is the part that turns an analysis into something a checking engineer will accept.

Installation Notes
- Set the design code before you build the model, it determines the section database, the load combination generator and the check routines.
- Result files grow quickly on models with hundreds of combinations, keep the working folder on a drive with real headroom.
- Run a small verification model against a hand calculation once after installing, it is the fastest way to confirm units and code settings are what you think they are.
Before You Start
Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.
There is no archive password on this or any other entry in the library. If something you downloaded elsewhere claims to come from here and asks for one, it did not come from here. Nothing on this site is behind a survey, a shortener or a countdown either.
If the entry does not match what the page describes, say so on the contact page and include the version string from the release details table. Reports naming a specific version get checked first because the checker can reproduce them straight away.
Frequently Asked
The package carries a very wide international code library covering steel, concrete, timber, aluminium and cold formed design across most regions.
It imports the common exchange formats. Expect to clean up and simplify the geometry, an architectural model is rarely an analysis model as it stands.
The report builder produces full calculation documents including input, diagrams and design checks, which is what checking engineers expect to receive.
