Overview

Waves Ultimate is the whole catalogue in one package. Rather than a handful of processors, this installs the complete set that has been accumulating for three decades, several hundred plugins covering everything a mix or a master passes through, in every plugin format a Windows host is likely to load.

The core of the collection is the mixing set. Equalisers ranging from surgical digital curves to models of the classic hardware channel strips, compressors and limiters covering optical, variable mu, field effect and modern digital behaviour, gates and expanders, de essers, transient shapers, and the channel emulations that put console colour on a sterile digital recording. These are the processors that appear on nearly every professionally mixed record made in the last twenty years, which is why the collection is the reference it is.

Around that sit the specialist tools. Convolution and algorithmic reverbs with real hall and plate impulse sets, delays with modulation and filtering, choruses, flangers, phasers, pitch correction and harmony generation, amplifier and cabinet models, spatial processors for stereo widening and surround placement, and a restoration suite that removes clicks, crackle, hum, hiss and broadband noise from damaged recordings without hollowing out the material.

The mastering chain is treated as its own set: multiband dynamics, linear phase equalisation, loudness metering against broadcast and streaming targets, dithering with several noise shaping options, spectrum and correlation analysis, and the maximisers that define the loudness stage of a modern master. Every plugin installs in the standard formats so any host on the machine sees the whole collection, and presets are shared between formats.

Installation Notes

• Install only the formats your hosts actually load. Installing every format triples the scan time on session open for no benefit.
• Set the plugin folder path during setup to match what your host already scans rather than adding a new path afterwards.
• The impulse response content is the bulk of the download, keep it on a drive with real headroom.

Before You Start

Read the notes above before running setup. Most of the problems people write in about are covered there, and almost all of them come down to an older version of the same software still being installed, a graphics driver that predates the release, or a security suite quarantining part of the package mid install.
